Where It All Began
Every remarkable story starts with someone who sees a problem and decides to fix it. Rod Jenden saw an opportunity to make home maintenance simpler, helping New Zealanders spend less time cleaning and more time enjoying their homes.
In 1976, Solar Chem was born in a small factory on View Road, Glenfield. Rod became the first person in New Zealand to chemically treat roofs to remove moss, mould and lichen. It was a pioneering innovation that protected properties and laid the foundations for a business built on making cleaning easier.
Innovation & Expansion
In the 1990s, Rod’s entrepreneurial spirit kicked into high gear. He realised that to help everyday Kiwis, he needed to connect with them face-to-face. So he expanded to sell directly to the public and launched a high-quality SKINS paint range. This allowed him to hear exactly what customers were struggling with and formulate specific, high-performance solutions to match. From this, the specialist antifouling product WARPAINT product was born before the game-changing launch of the household products we know today.
A Household Name is Born
In 1995, a simple idea became a household name. Wet & Forget was officially born, built around a bleach-free formula that transformed the way New Zealanders tackled moss, mould, lichen and algae.
Nearly three decades later, our original Wet & Forget product remains a trusted staple for Kiwi homes and has inspired the development of a growing range of customer favourites, including Shower Witch, Hit the Deck, Window Witch and Miss Muffet's Revenge. Each product has been created with the same philosophy that has guided us from the beginning: delivering high-performing solutions that make home and property maintenance simpler, easier and more effective.
As demand grew, so did the business. In 2003, we took our Kiwi-made formulas across the Tasman to Australia. By 2009 and 2011, Wet & Forget had expanded into the USA and the UK, introducing our unique approach to exterior cleaning to customers around the world. Today, that journey continues as we bring innovative cleaning solutions to more homes and properties than ever before.
